Conservatives Force Emergency Meeting On Attempted Terror Attack

Ottawa, ON – After nine years of Justin Trudeau, Canada has become unsafe. Violent crime has surged by 50 percent and following the October 7 terror attacks we have seen Canada’s Jewish community targeted with shootings, fire bombings and other violent acts of hate. The deteriorating state of our national security became further evident after the RCMP foiled an attempted ISIS terror attack in the Greater Toronto Area last week.

In the wake of this horrific news, Canadians expect their leaders to get to work and implement solutions that will protect them. This is especially important as we learned that one of the two accused men in the foiled Toronto plot was allowed to enter Canada and was granted Canadian citizenship by the Trudeau Government, even though he had been videoed dismembering a prisoner on behalf of ISIS in 2015. Canadians deserve to know how this man was ever allowed to enter the country, let alone receive a Canadian citizenship. It also raises serious concerns about whether any other ISIS terrorists have been allowed to enter Canada on this government’s watch.

For this reason, Common Sense Conservatives called on Liberal, NDP and Bloc MPs at the House of Commons’ Committee on Public Safety to agree to emergency meetings to get to the bottom of this colossal national security failure. Over the course of the summer, the Liberal-NDP coalition has refused numerous times to come back to Ottawa to deal with urgent matters facing Canadians. Following this attempted terrorist attack, Conservatives were not going to allow the Liberals and the NDP to ignore a matter of such vital consequence to Canada’s national security and have now successfully forced the NDP to lend their support to make this meeting happen.

Canadians deserve to live without fear in their communities. The fact that this man was allowed to not only enter Canada, but receive citizenship, is a shocking failure that can never be repeated. Next week the Public Safety Committee will meet to address this shocking national security failure and Conservatives will demand that Ministers Dominic LeBlanc, Marc Miller and top officials from the Trudeau government testify and tell the Canadians the truth of how this was allowed to happen. Justin Trudeau has repeatedly claimed that his government has thorough screening at our borders, he has claimed to take terrorism and national security seriously, but this foiled terror attack shows that this isn’t the case. Conservatives will continue to do everything in our power to keep Canadians safe and stop terrorists from entering our country.
