Liberal-NDP Coalition Must Give Canadians A Summer Break

Ottawa, ON – After nine years of Justin Trudeau, life has never been so unaffordable. Trudeau’s inflationary spending and taxes have driven up the cost of everything, forcing families to pay $700 more for groceries this year, while summer vacations have become an impossible expense.

Instead of providing Canadians with the relief they deserve, Trudeau has only made life more expensive. Last month, he hiked the carbon tax by 23 percent, as part of his plan to quadruple this tax over the next six years. This has made everything more expensive at the worst possible time. And as a direct result of Trudeau’s taxes, gas prices have surged by more than 50 percent since he became Prime Minister.

Canadians deserve a break. That’s why Common Sense Conservatives introduced a motion calling on the Liberal-NDP coalition to axe the carbon tax, the federal fuel tax, and GST on gasoline and diesel between Victoria Day and Labour Day so families can afford a simple summer vacation.

As a direct result of Trudeau’s cost-of-living crisis, Deloitte has reported that 77 percent of Canadians are expected to spend more or the same amount on summer trips as the previous year, with 49 percent of these respondents blaming rising prices for this. On top of this, 18 percent say they won’t be travelling at all this summer. Of this, 14 percent said it was too expensive.

Justin Trudeau may be able to fly off to a luxury resort for a $230,000 taxpayer-funded vacation, but most Canadians only want a simple road trip to visit their friends and family. This Common Sense Conservative motion would help a typical Canadian family save $670 this summer.

Instead of protecting this costly Liberal Government, the NDP, the Bloc and all MPs have the opportunity to vote with Conservatives and provide families with some real relief this summer. They must join with Common Sense Conservatives in axing the tax and bringing home lower prices for everyone.
