Statement from Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre on Onam

Ottawa, ON – The Hon. Pierre Poilievre, Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada and the Official Opposition, released the following statement on Onam:

“Every year, as the summer season comes to a close, Malayalees around the world gather to celebrate the ancient festival of Onam.

“Over the next ten days, celebrations will fill streets in Kerala and around the world as Malayalees commemorate the homecoming of King Mahabali and give thanks for a bountiful harvest. Together, they will celebrate the timeless values of peace and harmony, honouring the bonds of language and kinship that have sustained the Malayalee community for generations.

“Today, as Malayalees here in Canada face the challenges of inflation, Onam is an opportunity to reflect on King Mahabali’s incredible wisdom and his timeless message of hope in hard times.

“As doorways are brightened with vibrant Athapoo, and as the smells of the Sadya fill homes around the world, I hope that everyone celebrating is blessed with a renewed sense of peace and comfort. May this inspiring festival bring encouragement as we give thanks for the many blessings we receive and strengthen us as we look to the days ahead.   “From my family to yours, on behalf of the Conservative Party of Canada, Onam Ashamsakal!”
